Hotel of the Month: Tylney Hall, Hampshire

Tylney Hall is an independently owned country house hotel in the depths of the beautiful Hampshire countryside, full of aristocratic charm, warmth and generous hospitality. The beautiful Grade Two listed mansion house sits in 66 acres of quintessentially English landscaped gardens, woodlands and lakes.

During the summer months, the outdoor pool, beautifully designed within its own walled garden, is the focus for lazy sunny days with the terrace at the back of the house offering the perfect place for an evening drink. During the more typically miserable spring weather, the sink-in sofas next to roaring log fires are a great place to relax with the papers, have afternoon tea, or gather before dinner.

For the more active, there is an adjacent 18-hole golf course and other outdoor pursuits such as archery and clay pigeon shooting in the grounds which can all be pre-booked. In addition, there is an indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, gym, sauna and all weather tennis courts. There are also wooded trails ideal for walking or jogging, with horse riding offered locally, so you can never be short of something to do.

The bedrooms at Tylney Hall are either housed in the main mansion house or in the Orangery and walled garden. Many of the rooms offer views over the surrounding countryside and all have recently renovated contemporary bathrooms.

Highlights include grand four-poster beds and original features in many of the bedrooms, with extra large baths, ornate fireplaces and seat areas in suites. The rooms in The Orangery are self-contained with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the carp lake, allowing guests to step straight from their rooms into the gardens.

The Oak Room Restaurant

Stephen Hine, Head Chef at Tylney Hall for twenty years, is responsible for the innovative cuisine and the RAC Three Ribbon Dining Award.

Stephen oversees the 22 kitchen staff with his Senior Sous Chef, Neil Simpson. The menu is changed seasonally and depends heavily on local produce, with as many ingredients as possible coming from local farms and independent producers of cheese, fruit and vegetables.

With an experienced French pastry chef, the Vanilla Panacotta is particularly popular, other highlights of the menu include Chateaubriand, Duck Parfait with Red Onion and Toasted Brioche, and Pan Fried Skate served with Mango, Avocado and Chilli.

The stunning restaurant features a baroque ceiling and full-length windows looking out to the garden, bathing the room in natural light and allowing the scent of the garden to drift in on summer days. Serving 100 covers, the restaurant offers diners their own privacy whilst also maintaining a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
